NBME® SELF-ASSESSMENT SERVICES PRIVACY AND SECURITY POLICY
The National Board of Medical Examiners® (NBME) Self-Assessment Services Program is committed to protecting your privacy and to maintaining the integrity and privacy of personal information that NBME collects through the NBME Self-Assessment Services Interactive Website (the “Site”). The following Privacy and Security Policy (“Policy”) explains our information and dissemination practices in connection with the Site. If we change our Policy, we will post any changes on this webpage so that you are always aware of the information that we collect and how we use it.
What Personal Information Is Collected?
1. General Users
NBME does not collect any personal information from users browsing its website. Users to the public area of the NBME Self-Assessment Interactive Website may browse anonymously. NBME’s web server tracks the domain names and IP addresses of all visitors to the site to measure number of visits to the website and duration of visits.
2. Participants for Self-Assessment Services
To gain access to participant-only resources and personalization features on the Site, participants are asked to provide a unique e-mail address and password. NBME’s web server tracks the domain names, IP addresses, and the participants’ e-mail addresses for the purpose of providing and informing participants of the status pf activity associated with the assessment.

The following information is required from participants who choose to access services on the Site:
  • First and last name (surname/family name)
  • Billing and mailing addresses
  • E-mail address
  • Telephone number
  • Credit card number and billing information (for participants who elect to pay for their services with a credit card)
  • Assessment service requested
  • Password
The following information is requested but not required from participants who choose to access services:
  • Date of birth
  • Gender
  • Medical School country
  • Medical School name
  • Professional Degree
  • Date degree conferred/expected
  • Current Citizenship
  • Racial/ethnic background
  • Native Language
Will Personal Information Be Disclosed?
NBME does not release participant’s e-mail addresses to third parties for solicitation purposes. Optional information will be used for research purposes only. Participants will not be identified or identifiable in any research or publication which results from this research.
Security
NBME online registration is designed to protect your privacy. When you register for a Self-Assessment online with NBME, all of your order information, including your credit card number and address, is passed through our secure server. Our secure server uses Secure Socket Layers (SSL) technology which encrypts your order information, transmits it to NBME and prevents a third party from seeing your personal information.

NBME uses digital certificates through VeriSign, the industry’s leader in Web security. As a VeriSign Secure Site, visitors can verify the site’s authenticity and communicate with NBME securely using 128-bit encryption that protects confidential information.

When you register online and provide credit card information, NBME submits the requisite information to the appropriate clearinghouse to verify and validate the credit card. NBME does not disclose credit card information for any other purpose.

Unfortunately, no data transmission over the Internet can be guaranteed to be secure. As a result, while we strive to protect your personal information, we cannot and do not ensure or warrant the security of any information you transmit to us, and you do so at your own risk. In the event there is a breach of the security measures used by NBME, NBME will take reasonable and appropriate actions to minimize the damage resulting from the security breach. However, NBME cannot guarantee that unauthorized individuals will not obtain access to NBME systems through illegal measures, despite our security measures.
Use of Cookies
During the registration process, NBME uses temporary session cookies to transmit information. The temporary session cookies are deleted once the transaction is complete.
How Long Will Personal Information be Retained?
NBME does not store credit card information.
Limitations of Liability
Neither the NBME nor any of its subsidiaries, or affiliate entities, agents, employees, or subcontractors will be liable for any direct, indirect, special, incidental, consequential, punitive, or exemplary damages, including lost profits (even if we are advised of this possibility) arising in any way from the information contained in this Site or any information transmitted via this Site.

NBME is not liable for any damages or losses that may be caused to any equipment and other software due to any viruses, defects, or malfunctions in connection with access or use of this Site.

The NBME is committed to protecting your privacy. While we cannot guarantee privacy perfection, we will address any issues to the best of our abilities as soon as possible.

NBME reserves the right to change this Policy at any time by notifying the users of the existence and location of the new or revised Privacy Policy. Your continued use of the Site after notice of a change shall constitute your acceptance of any such changes to this policy.
