Clinical Science Mastery Series

Built to the same content specifications as the NBME clinical science subject examinations, the self-assessments included in this web-based series allow participants to assess their knowledge of the clinical sciences. Self-assessments are available for the following:

Each form of the self-assessments listed above has 50 items and is available with expanded feedback only.

Comprehensive Basic Science Self-Assessment (CBSSA)

The CBSSA uses multiple choice items based on information typically covered during basic science medical education courses. The CBSSA items resemble the content of those in Step 1 of the United States Medical Licensing Examination® (USMLE®). Each form of CBSSA has 200 items and there are forms available that provide expanded feedback. Exams taken since April 6, 2011, include longitudinal performance reports displaying up to six of the most recent completed exams. However, due to a recent scoring change, CBSSA exams started between April 13, 2009 and April 5, 2011, will appear on a separate longitudinal profile since they cannot be compared against those started on or after April 6, 2011.

Comprehensive Clinical Science Self-Assessment (CCSSA)

The CCSSA uses multiple choice items based on information typically covered during the core clinical clerkships. The CCSSA items resemble the content of those in USMLE Step 2 CK. Each form of CCSSA has 184 items and there are forms available that provide expanded feedback. Exams taken on or after November 17, 2010, include longitudinal performance profiles displaying up to six of the most recent completed exams.

Comprehensive Clinical Medicine Self-Assessment (CCMSA)

The CCMSA uses multiple choice items typically covered in patient centered encounters. The CCMSA items resemble the content of the multiple choice component of Step 3. Each form of CCMSA has 180 items and there are forms available that provide expanded feedback. Exams taken on or after November 17, 2010, include longitudinal performance reports displaying up to six of the most recent completed exams.

International Foundations of Medicine® CS Self-Assessment

Built to the same content specifications as the International Foundations of Medicine (IFOM®) Clinical Science Examination (CSE), this web-based self-assessment is for international medical students who want to assess their knowledge of the clinical sciences in advance of taking the IFOM Clinical Science Examination.
